Notable commissions include the downtown YMCA, St. John's Episcopal Church in Shandon, the Township Auditorium, the War Memorial Building, the Wade Hampton State Office Building, and the James L. Tapp Department Store. Lafaye also designed numerous luxury homes throughout Forest Hills and Heathwood, including 13 residences in M.C. Heath's original Heathwood subdivision, now considered a staple collection of Columbia's historic high‑end homes.
